KLPR has landed!

Anyone who has visited our homecare in the past year can attest to how challenging it has been to live with up to twenty pooches in a link house in the suburbs. Whether it is 2pm or 2am, there is always a mess to clean up. As for noise - our neighbours are accommodating only because we bribe them regularly with chocolate and soothing words!

That is why we are over the moon that we have finally found a piece of land to build our very own adoption centre. Located conveniently in Sri Damansara, the acre plot will be the site of a modern sanctuary that will rehabilitate injured and abandoned dogs till they are ready for new families.

In a completely separate building we will offer top-of-the-line boarding facilities for dogs that include spacious pens (no cages), an above-ground pool, a gym with imported canine treadmills and an agility course. All proceeds from boarding will go towards the adoption centre and our rescue efforts. So owners who travel can pamper their pooches and help save lives!

Hard work pays off

KL POOCH RESCUE would like to recognise a young lady who rescued a very friendly black dog that was hanging around outside her aunt's house. Even when it rained, he remained faithfully by the gate. Tracy couldn't find his owner so, assuming he was abandoned, she named him "Rocky" and took him to her house.

Things turned bad when Tracy brought Rocky home. Her present dog, Striker, was immediately hostile and attacked the new pooch. Rocky retaliated and from then on they were at each other's throats.

Instead of giving Rocky the boot, Tracy called us for advice. We asked her to get the dogs neutered to lower their aggression, which she did without hesitation. Then we visited her at her home to provide tips on how to turn the situation around.

We are no dog whisperers but a few simple techniques later and the pair were walking together like nothing had happened! After we left there was a minor altercation and some growling, but Tracy has continued with the training and informs us that Rocky and Striker are no longer enemies.

Many thanks to Tracy and family for putting in the effort to make sure Rocky is kept off the streets. It was an absolute pleasure to work with you!

One of our fosterers has generously offered her house to be the venue of KLPR'S first adoption drive! We thought it fitting to mark the occasion by having an Aussie theme, complete with "sangers" (hotdogs) and "coldies" (drinks). So whack your "flip-flops" (slippers) on and join us this Sat 31st March... the pooches await!

Kajang crisis

We first heard from Sharon a week and a half ago. New to animal rescue, she had responded to a report on the internet about pups being dumped in a vacant lot in Kajang. It wasn't until she got there that she realised a lot of them were in bad shape and would need medical attention.

A ten-month old pup affected by mange

Sharon managed to save a few on her first visit and returned the following day for the rest. She was shocked to find new, freshly abandoned faces. Collecting as many as she could each time, Sharon returned to Kajang day after day - rescuing a total of EIGHTEEN pooches!

Whether the locals saw her picking up the dogs and decided to take advantage of the situation is uncertain. What is beyond doubt is that the expense to board and treat all these pooches is fast becoming unmanageable.

Sharon managed to rescue some mothers too

We have examined all of Sharon's invoices. Treatment has included mange injections, vaccinations, boarding at various clinics and an emergency operation on a little pup whose intestines collapsed.

So far the vet bills have amounted to 4913RM.
It is a heavy burden for someone to carry alone.

It would have been easy for Sharon to walk away from helping these pups. Unlike most people, she chose not to. Support her ongoing efforts by visiting our Make a Donation page, and please remember to code your contribution "Kajang".

TOY DOGS NEED REAL HOMES

How do some people sleep at night?

Six months ago, a woman checked in five small dogs and several hamsters at a shop in SS2 under the guise of boarding. When she suddenly stopped answering her phone, it was obvious that she, like so many other morally bankrupt owners, had abandoned her pets.

All of her dogs had mange. None were desexed. Caged for the past half a year and left untreated, their condition deteriorated steadily.

Hearing about the pooches’ predicament, a concerned party tried to rehome them herself but was only able to find one adopter, who graciously took the dog with the worst skin. She has asked KL POOCH RESCUE to help place the remaining four.

These beautiful pint-sized dogs won’t take very long to be restored to their former glory. We are asking adopters to provide:
  1. A full grooming session (for toy poodles)
  2. Mange treatment (3 x 50RM injections over 3 weeks)
  3. Desexing (150-200)
  4. A loving, attentive environment without cages or chains – of course!
They are estimated to be below two years of age. Please call Gina on 012 480 2666 for more information.

The evil in nothing - people who won't desex

"The only thing necessary for the triumph of evil is for good men to do nothing." - Edmund Burke

To all those "good" men and women out there who refuse to desex their pets because of sentimentality, outdated beliefs, laziness or some other ridiculous reason: this is the result of your apathy. Another decimated face of a stray animal caught on the streets and dumped in the pound by MBPJ. Her body is a sack of bones, ribcage and hips jutting out. Her wounded eye has been neglected for so long that it is a swollen mess of pus and crusted tears.

Yet with her working eye she looks at you not with hatred, as she should, but with pleading. She pleads for food, she hopes for a pat, she wishes for better days that will never come.

Like millions of dogs around the world, she was born unwanted and will die unwanted. Why?

People say, "I won't desex because I have a male."
But they don't care if he impregnates others or becomes aggressive.
People say, "I won't desex because my dog never gets out."
But then she does.
People say, "I won't desex because it is unnatural."
But they use birth control, cosmetics and painkillers.
People say, "I won't desex because it is cruel."
But they walk past the hurt and abandoned and DO NOTHING.

There are many excuses; none can justify the suffering of innocents.

DESEX YOUR PET - or don't own one.
